What can I pay for with a personal loan?
You can use a fixed-rate personal loan to consolidate credit card debt and other types of debt. You can also use a personal loan to pay for home improvement projects, emergency repairs, IVF or adoption, medical expenses, wedding planning, travel, and even purchasing a used vehicle – all with no down payment.
A personal loan from Rocket Loans cannot be used to pay for student loans, illegal activities, or gambling.

Should I get a personal loan to pay off credit card debt?
Consolidating credit card debt is one of the most common reasons to take out a personal loan. By paying off high-interest credit cards with a fixed-rate personal loan, you could potentially save money on interest and simplify your finances with a single, fixed monthly payment.
A debt consolidation loan may be a good option if:
You’re making above the minimum payment on your credit cards, but it doesn’t seem to make a dent
You’re struggling to keep track of multiple payments and due dates each month
You want your interest rate to stay the same
You want a clear timeline for paying off debt
When you consolidate debt with a personal loan, it’s important to make sure your credit card bills don’t creep back up. Many Rocket Loans clients use the Rocket Money app – it has free tools and features to help monitor your balances and stay on track.
What are the requirements to qualify?
To qualify for an online personal loan from Rocket Loans, you must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident, and live in a state where we currently operate (not available in Nevada, Iowa, West Virginia, or Maryland).
Additionally, your approval will take into account your financial profile, including your credit score, among other factors. A FICO® score of 640 or higher is strongly recommended.
How are my rates determined?
Your personal loan rates depend on your financial profile. Rocket Loans takes many factors into consideration, including:
FICO® score
Monthly income
Home ownership
Debt-to-income (DTI) ratio
Number of credit inquiries
Loan term (36 or 60 months)
What is the origination fee?
An origination fee is a one-time fee deducted from your loan when it’s funded — not paid out of pocket. It helps us deliver the kind of experience you deserve: thoughtful service, U.S.-based support, and a team of professionals who handle every detail with care.
Our average origination fee is 4.35% for clients with very good credit and may be as low as 3.23% for those borrowing $40,000 or more. The maximum origination fee is 9.99%. The exact fee is based on your financial profile and the total amount you’d like to borrow. It will be clearly disclosed before you accept your loan.
At Rocket Loans, we’re committed to transparency. We disclose all fees associated with your loan up front. When other lenders advertise personal loans with no fees, it may mean they’re replacing fees with a higher rate in order to make that money back. This means a no-fee personal loan could potentially cost you more over time compared to a loan with modest fees and a lower rate.
How will a personal loan affect my credit?
When you check your rate and find out how much you prequalify for with Rocket Loans, we’ll run a soft credit pull with no risk to your credit score.
If you decide to accept a loan offer, we’ll run a hard inquiry that can cause a small, temporary drop in your credit score (1 – 5 points).
Over time, there are many ways a personal loan can affect your credit, including positive improvement as you make on-time payments that reduce your total credit utilization.

What happens if I make a late payment?
We’re humans, not loan sharks. Late payments may result in a $15 fee and could negatively impact your credit score – but we understand life happens. If you anticipate payment difficulties, please contact us before your due date so we can discuss options.
Can I apply with a co-signer?
Rocket Loans currently offers personal loans to individual applicants only. Our team is constantly working on improvements and considering new loan options for the future.
